East Hastings is one of four ‘area co-ordination’ areas across the town. The others being Central, North St Leonards, and South St Leonards. East Hastings is split into four wards namely ORE, OLD HASTINGS, BAIRD, and TRESSELL.

What is area co-ordination you may ask? Well it’s a new way for service providers, members of the community and local and county councillors to work together to ensure that services meet the needs of neighbourhoods.

The East Hastings Community Safety Special Interest Group or SIG meet monthly. The location for the meeting moves to a different location every month visiting the different wards in turn - see the News page on this site for details.

Present at the meeting include professionals from the various agencies working to make East Hastings a safer and cleaner place to live as well as your local councillors and residents. New members of the public are also more than welcome at any of these meetings.

The meetings are the ideal opportunity for local people to find out what the agencies have been up to over the past month in their area and also to pass on to them any community safety issues they may have from their area that haven’t been discussed.

The Neighbourhood Renewal team who chair the meetings, then feed any issues that need joint agency action in to the Multi Agency Tasking Team or MATT. The MATT is the key driver in making a real difference to peoples lives across East Hastings. A vast number of agencies attend and discuss local issues in an action plan format, as well as bringing any local intelligence they have gathered from the streets and ask for help from other agencies on things they can’t solve by themselves.
