Halton is just a stones throw from the Old Town and, besides being neighbours, there is another link. When St Clements Church, Halton (which was built in 1838) closed back in 1970 some of the furnishings were sent to her namesake St Clements Old Town. The altar from the Halton church now sits in the lady chapel in the Old Town church. It is a beautifully carved altar so is never covered by an altar frontal. St Clements Old Town also inherited some of the silver and the vestments from the Halton church and these are still being used on a regular basis. So next time you are in the Old Town why not pop in and take a look.
