About Us

The Ore Valley Forum was established in 1993 to bring together residents with representatives of the local authorities, housing associations, resident associations and service providers, both statutory and voluntary.

Members share the desire to improve the quality of life for all who live and work in the area.

Who can join the Forum?

  • Individuals who live or work in the Ore Valley.
  • Business, community and voluntary groups that operate in the area can be invited to nominate a representative and deputy representative
  • Elected Councillors for the area are members automatically.

How does the Forum work?

General meetings are held approximately three times a year and once a year there is an annual general meeting.  The general meetings and the annual general meetings are open to all members of the Forum.  Other meetings are arranged on matters of public interest that are open to all.

There are a number of special interest groups that do detailed work on the main issues affecting the area such as planning, youth work, the environment, community safety and learning.  Each group reports to the executive committee (see below).  Any member of the Forum can join one or more of the special interest groups.  You can find out more about special interest groups by clicking on the left hand menu option.

The Forum has an executive committee consisting of:

  • honorary officers of the Forum – click the left hand menu option to see who they are;
  • representatives of special interest groups;
  • individual members elected annually at the annual general meeting;
  • up to four co-opted members;
  • elected Councilors for the Baird and Tressell wards.

The executive committee generally meets every month alternating between The Bridge and Broomgrove Community Centre.

Where does the money come from?

Neighbourhood Renewal initiatives enhance the ability of the Forum to hold service providers in the Valley to account and provide the Forum with a budget to implement resident-led projects to achieve its aims.  The Forum also looks for other sources of funding, such as the National Lottery, to help with its activities.

If your community or voluntary group would like to bid for a small grant from the Forum, please complete an application form which you can obtain from Viv at The Bridge or by emailing her at vreddick@hastings.gov.uk.  The grant must be for work in the Ore Valley and further the aims and objectives of the Forum.  Forum officers will discuss with you reporting requirements so that the money is properly accounted for.
